Welcome to the North Alabama Area Health Education Center (NAAHEC)

North Alabama AHEC serves a 13-county region, providing programs and services focused on health career exploration, clinical training opportunities for students and residents, and community health education.

As part of the HRSA-funded Alabama AHEC Network, we focus on healthcare workforce development by:

  • broadening the distribution of the health workforce.
  • Enhancing the quality of care.
  • Improving healthcare delivery to rural and under-resourced populations in Alabama.

AHEC Scholars

The Alabama AHEC Scholars Program is a multidisciplinary program that gives health profession students a unique opportunity to practice hands-on training and gain experience providing care in rural or underserved areas.

Health Careers Pathway

Our Pathways program promotes health careers to our K-12 students through engaging classroom presentations and summer programs.

Community Health Promotion

Core to this program involves our CHW team members who serve as health ambassadors embedded in their local communities making a difference where they are.

About AHEC

 Nationally the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program was established by Congress in 1971 to recruit, train, and retain a healthcare workforce dedicated to serving underserved communities. AHECs connect academic medicine with local needs, helping to bridge gaps in healthcare access and education.
